5 Songs To Describe My Week

I thought that last year was the worst year to date but it turns out 2018 is already shaping up to be a contender. I was listening to a few songs on the way to work during the week and realised how close to my feelings and situations they were. Thus this post was born; 5 songs to describe my week.

1. In My Blood – Shawn Mendes

Keep telling me that it gets better
Does it ever?

Help me, it’s like the walls are caving in
Sometimes I feel like giving up
No medicine is strong enough
Someone help me
I’m crawling in my skin
Sometimes I feel like giving up
But I just can’t

I had a very odd start to my week. Tuesday I woke up and was instantly in the worst mood ever and was just feeling so depressed. Listening to this song oddly made me feel better.
The lyrics really resonate with me because I’m actually on medication to try and control my depression which doesn’t actually seem to be going so well. I do also get weird feelings in my forearms and they feel all itchy when I get really anxious (anyone else have that?). Thankfully I have really supportive and understanding people around me and I was able to distract myself with work and shake the awful feeling off.

2. Cry Pretty – Carrie Underwood

But sometimes my emotions get the best of me
And falling apart is as human as it gets
You can’t hide it, you can’t fight what the truth is

You can pretty lie and say it’s okay
You can pretty smile and just walk away
Pretty much fake your way through anything
But you can’t cry pretty

I absolutely adore Carrie Underwood and the fact that she dropped a new single this week has made my week somewhat. The subject of the song, though upsetting as the lyrics show, was really what I needed. I tried to keep it together and then ended up crying for about 40 minutes solid at work and it was anything but pretty. This song is a good one to belt out if you’re feeling emotional.

3. IDGAF – Dua Lipa

Cause I already cried enough
I’ve been done
I’ve been movin’ on since we said goodbye
I cut you off
I don’t need your love
So you can try all you want
Your time is up, I’ll tell you why

You say you’re sorry, but it’s too late now
So save it, get gone, shut up
‘Cause if you think I care about you now
Well, boy, I don’t give a fuck

This is one of those songs that originally I wasn’t sure if I liked it but it kept ending up in my head. Now I can’t stop singing/ humming it.
I have to admit this has turned into my sassy “no one can hurt me” song lately. I actually really like it and have done a cover of it which you can actually find here. The live lounge of this song is stunning as is Craig David’sresponseversion. It also spurs me on in the gym and has become the song I listen to when I need to give myself a metaphorical kick into shape.

4. Confident – Demi Lovato

It’s time for me to take it
I’m the boss right now
Not gonna fake it
Not when you go down

‘Cause this is my game, and you better come to play
I used to hold my freak back, now I’m letting go
I make my own choice
Bitch, I run this show
So leave the lights on
No, you can’t make me behave

I’m so excited about this next one! Confident is my pick me up song at the moment but it’s also got me pumped for June. I managed to get tickets to see Demi live at Newmarket racecourse. I’m beyond excited for this because I have wanted to see her for a long time and really like that 90% of the songs are sung perfectly live. Let me know if you’re going too and we could totally go for coffee or something beforehand!

5. Meant To Be – Bebe Rexha featuring Florida Georgia Line

I don’t mean to be so uptight
But my heart’s been hurt a couple times
By a couple guys that didn’t treat me right
I ain’t gon’ lie, ain’t gon’ lie
‘Cause I’m tired of the fake love
Show me, what you’re made of
Boy, make me believe

Oh hold up, girl, don’t you know you’re beautiful?
And it’s easy to see

If it’s meant to be, it’ll be, it’ll be
Baby, just let it be

I am a huge fan of country music as I’m sure you may have guessed by now. I’ve also recently started getting into tarot cards and the idea that destiny may be more than just a video game. (I’m hilarious, right?) I am unfortunately going through heartbreak and a tough time so this just helps me to see that things sometimes just aren’t meant to be. I also really love the crossover between country and pop that’s happening at the moment too!

So that’s my roundup for the week. How did you like this post? Hopefully next will be happier songs to describe my week…

  1. I hope your week gets better (I won’t say year because baby steps). Music definitely does help shift a mood and I’m always thankful for that when I feel like everything is going wrong.

This is actually a really cool thing to do every week! I never thought to use music to describe my week, but I haven’t really listened to much either so… lol
